Southern Cross Climate Coalition: Climate Solutions And Clean Energy Jobs

Achieving an ambitious and fair global climate agreement at Copenhagen in December 2009 is in Australia’s national interest and will help to accelerate the just transition to a global clean energy economy, says a brochure by the Southern Cross Climate Coalition of union, environmental, social and research organisations.

The brochure includes facts, figures and practical suggestions for turning leading action on climate change into opportunities for growth and jobs, particularly in the clean energy industry.

"Studies indicate that 2.7 million jobs will be created in the Australia over the next 15 years as we move to a cleaner, low carbon economy. Up to 1 million of these could be clean energy jobs using traditional skills in emerging industries like
solar, wind, recycling and sustainable water use," the Southern Cross Climate Coalition says.

"The responsible way forward is clear. In order to avoid a dangerous level of global warming, Australia must lead
efforts to ensure the international community forges a concrete agreement at Copenhagen that will result
in stabilisation of greenhouse gas levels at less than 450ppm-e."
