Unions and the Australian Conservation Foundation are
calling for members in all industries to become Climate Connectors in their
workplaces, homes and communities. Those
who volunteer as Climate Connectors will receive ACF-developed kits and web
tools, access to face-to-face training, and everything you need to campaign. The
joint ACTU/ACF Climate Connectors campaign, which is focussed on the period
leading up to the Copenhagen climate summit in December, is calling for unionists
to help the world achieve a successful successor to the Kyoto Protocol. “The
scientists tell us that if we achieve a global agreement on climate change in
Copenhagen in December, a successor to the Kyoto protocol, we may be able to
save the Barrier Reef, stop 100 million people from being displaced and
minimise the increased number and intensity of cyclones, bushfires, floods and
droughts,” the ACF and ACTU says. “Unions
have a proud history of campaigning on environmental issues. But rarely have
the stakes been as high as they are now.” To sign up to be a Climate Connector or
to find out more, visit www.climateconnectors.org.
