Clean Up Australia Launches Interactive ‘Clean Up the River’ Game For World Environment Day

Clean Up Australia launched a web-based educational game, Clean Up the River, to coincide with World Environment Day on 5 June.

The fun, challenge-based, game has been designed to stimulate primary school aged kids to learn more about the impact of rubbish on their local river systems.

Developed under a partnership with the Carbon Reduction Institute the school resource has been linked back to draft national and state curriculum, with four levels of difficulty to cover all age groups.

The animated game has two sections, starting with a river voyage and finishing with a recycling challenge, combined with educational content and a multiple choice quiz to reinforce learnings.

In the first section students learn to navigate a river removing rubbish while avoiding marine life. The characters and river vessel are customisable with a fun soundtrack and multiple checkpoints where environmental messages pop up before the journey continues.

The second section takes place in a recycling plant, where students need to sort rubbish correctly, while learning additional practical waste management facts.
