Financial members of the IEU are eligible to join the Teachers Federation Health. The society is a not-for-profit health insurance fund which was created over 45 years ago to provide quality lower cost health insurance for teachers and their families.
You can now also choose to take out ambulance cover on its own if you wish to be covered for this vital service.
Waiting periods and transfer to higher tables
Members transferring from other registered health funds will not have to serve waiting periods for equivalent benefits, when suitable evidence of such cover is provided.
Payroll deductions
All Catholic systemic employers provide payroll deductions (PRDs) to the Teachers Health Society. The application form for membership includes a PRD authority.
Teachers Federation Health
The Teachers Federation Health was established as a society for union members. Non-financial union members cannot remain members of the Teachers Federation Health. This is vigorously and continuously enforced by the Teachers Federation Health. In order to ensure that only members can access this benefit, your IEU membership number becomes your Health fund number. Membership forms are available from the Health fund by ringing; 1300 728 188 or look at their website at: www.teachershealth.com.au
Teachers Eye Care Centre
The Teachers Federation Health has established two Eye Care Centres at their City and Parramatta centres. The centre provides high quality spectacles and contact lenses at very low prices. The normal mark up for spectacles is in excess of 100 per cent. As a non-profit organisation the centre can pass on enormous savings to members of the IEU.
All members of the IEU are welcome to use the centre and Teachers Federation Health members contributing to 'Ancillary Cover' will be able to choose from hundreds of frames which, when the Society benefit is deducted, can result in no cost to the member.
