Member discount & consumer services Union Shopper has developed a first class business in membership services, providing excellent savings on a range of goods and services.

Union members wine club

This is a mail order club available to members only. Brochures including an application form are available from the IEU office. Membership is free and there is no obligation to buy. The wine club can be contacted on (02) 9624 8333 or 1800 062 626.

SGE, the Service Credit Union

SGE offers all the usual services of a financial institution, such as personal and home loans, cheque books, Visa and ATM cards, savings and investment accounts. In addition, special benefits are offered such as a bill paying service, insurance services, a 24 hour balance and transfer service and a free car buying service - Autosearch.

There are service centres located throughout Sydney and in Wagga Wagga, Bathurst, Newcastle and Gosford, although with SGE Direct - the member telephone centre, Visa Card and Redicard for EFTPOS and ATMs, most transactions can be made without the need to visit an office.

A number of employers, including Catholic Dioceses, have also agreed to whole of pay deposits to SGE. Members should check with their pay office to establish whether this facility is available. With this arrangement periodical payments can be made and SGE can allocate funds to various types of savings and loan accounts.

SGE also has a team of development officers who will visit your work location to discuss any matter regarding membership with SGE, the Service Credit Union.

Accommodation FLAG - Hotels - Inns - Resorts - Apartments IEU members are eligible to join the Flag Choice Club which provides discounts of at least 10 per cent and as much as 35 per cent in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Fiji.

Best Western offers members significant discounts for accommodation in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, France, Mexico, Israel and Singapore. Special rates apply for Windscreens O'Brien. IEU members can join by calling the IEU office. We will then issue you with a membership card.

Car rental

Avis/Hertz/Budget/Thrifty

Members pay corporate rates for car rentals with all these companies. Avis extend these rates to car hire overseas but recommend that you make your bookings in Australia.

The IEU office will provide a sticker carrying the IEU's identification number. This must be produced when claiming the discount. To make a decision as to which company is offering the most competitive rate, members should check the insurance rates and conditions and any additional costs for travel to country areas.

Car rental companies often advertise specials for limited periods - discounts will not usually apply to these specials. NRMA members may find some rates lower if bookings are made through the NRMA.

Recreational services

Sydney University Sports and Aquatic Centre Members can join the Noel Martin Recreation Centre for an annual fee (price on application). Facilities include a swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, weight lifting, aerobics and cardio-vascular equipment.

Wollongong University Recreation and Sports Association

IEU members who are graduates of Wollongong University or other colleges or universities can join the association for an annual fee (price on application).

This gives members access to all facilities at rates which are at an average 50 per cent below commercial rates. Telephone: (02) 4221 4700
