Teacher Exchange Program 2010

The NSW/IEU Teacher Exchange Program is offered as a member benefit to teachers with at least five years experience.

What is it?

An exchange is the direct swap of your position and your accommodation (or you can arrange alternate accommodation);

  • you are paid by your home employer;
  • your year away is counted as a year of service (all accrued entitlements);
  • your spouse/partner may apply for an open work permit and work and be paid in the local currency;
  • there are no school fees in Canada or UK (all part of the local taxes) if you send your children to the local public or Catholic schools.

So why not consider a teacher exchange:

The Teacher Exchange Program has been developing for many years and the union has made a substantial commitment, both in time and finances, to provide this major benefit to members. To assist in planning for an exchange, the IEU:

  • Ensures that all queries from the school and teacher, regarding a potential match, are answered promptly by the overseas partner;
  • Provides ongoing advice on all matters such as taxation, insurance, health, accommodation agreements etc;
  • Arranges for honorary membership of the appropriate union for teachers on exchange and offers the same to the partners;
  • Liaises constantly with overseas authorities to ensure that the maximum support is given to both teachers while they are overseas.

If you are interested in finding out more information, please contact Helen Gregory at the IEU office on 9779 3200 or 1800 467 943, or email helen@ieu.asn.au or register your interest online:
