The IEU represents university educated teachers employed in child early education and care services in NSW and the ACT, including preschools, long day care centres and teachers that work in early intervention services.
The IEU has been successful in gaining improvements in pay and conditions for teachers in private and community based centres. We have also negotiated many stand-alone agreements for members employed in individual services, and other larger organisations such as KU Children's Services, Goodstart and Uniting Early Learning to name just a few.

Members of ECS Council are elected by Early Childhood members in various geographical regions in NSW and the ACT. They are employed in a variety of early education and care settings. The ECS Council has an advisory role to the Union, Executive and officers.

The team at the Early Childhood Educator’s Well-being Project have written a letter to the State and Federal ministers and Shadow Ministers responsible for Early Childhood – urging governments to provide support for staff in early childhood centres.30 Mar 2020
The NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian has extended all WWCC clearances that were due to expire from 26 March 2020 to 26 September 2020 for a further six months.30 Mar 2020
In a press conference today, 27 March, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced that each of the states and territories will be granted license to pursue their own arrangements directly with schools, between now and the end of term.27 Mar 2020
Sign the IEUA NSW/ACT petition for an immediate transition to emergency schooling arrangements w/ reduced student attendance. Teachers & support staff must be given time and a safe work environment in the transition to a hybrid education model.26 Mar 2020
The NSW Shadow Minister for Early Childhood Learning has today written a letter to staff working in early childhood learning centres to thank them for the work they are doing in early childhood education during the uncertain times created by COVID-19. She has also attached a letter she wrote to the Minister for Early Childhood Learning Sarah Mitchell with concerns about the impacts of COVID-19 on the NSW Early Childhood Learning sector.26 Mar 2020
Recently, the IEU represented members’ concerns about accreditation requirements to NESA. NESA has issued the following advice to ease requirements during this time period.26 Mar 2020
At this stage, both early education and care centres and community-based preschools will continue to remain open. As with the closure of schools, this matter is under review constantly. We understand that it will be discussed again at the COAG meeting on Friday.26 Mar 2020
On Monday 23 March, NSW Labor called on the Berejiklian Government to put an end to the confusion faced by parents and close schools, TAFEs and childcare centres to slow the spread of COVID-19.25 Mar 2020
The IEU spoke with Federal Education Minister Dan Tehan late yesterday afternoon and again earlier today. The union raised key issues impacting early childhood members that we want the federal government to address immediately.25 Mar 2020
