The IEU represents university educated teachers employed in child care services in NSW and the ACT, including preschools, long day care centres and teachers that work in early intervention services.



The IEU has been successful in gaining improvements in pay and conditions for teachers in private and community based centres. We have also negotiated many stand-alone agreements for members employed in individual services, and other larger organisations such as KU Children's Services, Big Fat Smile, Goodstart to name a few.

ECS Council



Members of ECS Council are elected by ECS members in various geographical regions in NSW and the ACT.  They are employed in a variety of ECS centres. The ECS Council has an advisory role to the Union, Executive and officers.

Current Members of the Council are Gabrielle Connell - ECS Vice President and representatives from:

  • Marie Jacobsen - Wagga/Albury
  • Lyn Connors - Hunter/Newcastle
  • Ariane Simon (St Stephens Preschool Normanhurst) - Sydney Area

Your workplace news

  • Information for members affected by the bushfire emergency

    The Union is aware that a number of members have been severely affected by the NSW bush fires, particularly on the South Coast and in the Snowy Mountains and nearby areas. Some IEU members have lost their homes as a result of the bush fires.

    The national bushfire crisis has brought a bleak start to the new year for many Australians who have had their homes destroyed, family members lost, jobs gone and are experiencing significant dislocation. Many of those on the front line of the crisis are trade union members and their families. The Australian trade union movement stands in solidarity with affected communities.

  • Christmas closedown

    The IEU wishes all of our members a safe and happy holiday! We will be closing down over Christmas from 20 December, and look forward to serving and fighting for you in 2020.

    Bushfire smoke contains a mixture of gases and very fine particles that can be hazardous to health. Those most at risk are firefighters and outdoor workers.

    Every employer or Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) has a duty of care to “ensure the health and safety of their workers and others at the workplace.” This includes ensuring that workers are not exposed to hazardous temperatures.
