The IEU represents university educated teachers employed in child care services in NSW and the ACT, including preschools, long day care centres and teachers that work in early intervention services.



The IEU has been successful in gaining improvements in pay and conditions for teachers in private and community based centres. We have also negotiated many stand-alone agreements for members employed in individual services, and other larger organisations such as KU Children's Services, Big Fat Smile, Goodstart to name a few.

ECS Council



Members of ECS Council are elected by ECS members in various geographical regions in NSW and the ACT.  They are employed in a variety of ECS centres. The ECS Council has an advisory role to the Union, Executive and officers.

Current Members of the Council are Gabrielle Connell - ECS Vice President and representatives from:

Your workplace news

  • Bathurst Catholic employers won't talk

    Teachers and support staff in Catholic schools in the Bathurst Diocese in central west NSW and their union representatives were left frustrated on Wednesday 26 February when the newly appointed Executive Director of Schools for the diocese, Christina Trimble, cancelled negotiations for a new Work Practices Agreement at short notice. The current agreement expired in December 2019.

  • Update on EA negotiations: Catholic systemic schools

    The union has been meeting with the Catholic Commission for Employment Relations (CCER) concerning a new enterprise agreement to apply to teachers and support staff from January 2020. CCER has so far agreed to a number of the union's claims, but many key issues remain outstanding.

  • Talks underway on transfer of employment in Diocese of Lismore

    Lismore Catholic Schools Office (CSO) representatives have met with the IEU to discuss the long-foreshadowed transition to a new corporate entity, the Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools Limited (DLCSL).

  • Vote Yes: NSW Christian Schools General Staff Multi-Enterprise Agreement

    The Union has been advised that schools will conduct a vote of employees covered by the MEA in the first week of March. In order for the MEA to go to the Fair Work Commission for approval, a majority of employees who vote must vote in favour of the MEA. After extensive negotiations, the union recommends members vote "YES" in the MEA vote because of the significant pay rises on offer and other improvements.
