Expanding Educational Experiences: Pedagogy beyond the classroom
Featuring guest speakers Dr Mary McMillan and Associate Professor Penelope Serow.
Dr Mary McMillan is a Lecturer in Biomedical Science at the University of New England. She works with the Brain Behaviour Research Group to investigate mental health disorders, focusing mostly on depression. Her research aims to identify genetic and other biological markers that can be used to better diagnose and treat these disorders and improve health outcomes for millions of Australians. Mary greatly enjoys teaching physiology, genetics and human development, and supervising and mentoring research students.
Associate Professor Penelope Serow (Pep) has 26 years of experience in the education sector. Associate Professor Serow has a PhD in mathematics education and formal teaching qualifications in primary and secondary contexts. In addition to 12 years of experience as a schoolteacher and Head of Department, Pep has over 13 years of experience in teacher education and educational research with the University of New England. Pep brings to the profession an evidence-based approach that is grounded in extensive practical experience in the Pacific region.
Completing Expanding Educational Experiences: Pedagogy beyond the classroom will contribute 45 minutes of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Registered PD addressing 3.3.2 and 4.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
