MANAGING DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS
Completing Managing Difficult Conversations in K to 6 Schools – How to Discuss What Matters will contribute 2 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Student/child Mental health addressing standard descriptor 7.3.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
The course is also accredited by TQI for teachers maintaining their accreditation in the ACT.
Throughout their career, every teacher will experience situations where they are required to conduct conversations about sensitive and challenging topics with colleagues, parents, and caregivers.
This course will investigate why some conversations are difficult and often avoided. It will provide a framework to structure and support challenging conversations, so that sensitive information can be communicated clearly and professionally.
- understand the psychology of why conversations about sensitive and challenging topics are difficult
- reflect on how best to support students with learning needs and communicate with parents and care givers to promote better educational and social outcomes
- engage with other course participants and the presenter regarding the practice they currently undertake in their educational setting or teaching and learning context
- explore several frameworks to support and enhance communication with colleagues, parents and caregivers.
