MANAGING AND RESPONDING TO EXTREME BEHAVIOURS IN K-6 SCHOOLS

Completing Managing and Responding to Extreme Behaviours in K-6 Schools will contribute 2 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Student/child Mental health addressing standard descriptor 4.3.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

The course is also accredited by TQI for teachers maintaining their accreditation in the ACT.

As schools have become increasingly more diverse and complex, the need to support students with challenging behaviours has become commonplace.

This course will help participants reflect on their knowledge and understanding of trauma and consider how to integrate a range of individual behaviour plans, education supports, and care/crisis/safety plans for students with additional needs.

Participants will:

  • explore current knowledge and understanding of the different types of trauma that students may experience and identify how such experiences might manifest in the classroom
  • gain a better understanding of the rationale for inclusive and differentiated approaches to student behaviour management
  • reflect on how they support students with challenging behaviours through a trauma-informed lens to promote an inclusive classroom

The presenter will identify strategies and approaches to establish a consistent and predictable classroom environment with additional supports for students with mental health needs including the procedures, routines, and physical attributes of classrooms that best support A.C.E students.
