In recent months, your Union has finalised agreements at three colleges, while bargaining continues at two others.
In November, a new agreement for Navitas English ACT was lodged with the Fair Work Commission. Before this time, employees were on the Modern Award with none of the protections of an agreement, unlike their colleagues in NSW. The agreements guarantee the over award salaries and conditions, and wage rises for 2018 and 2019.
In December, a renewed Agreement at Australian Pacific College was submitted, protecting all existing conditions and providing for modest pay rises until the end of 2020.
In January, a renewed agreement at Sydney English Language Centres (SELC) was lodged, providing for significant pay increases (5% backdated to start of 2016, and a further 3% to start of 2017, along with 2% increases in both 2018 and 2019), as well as the inclusion of paid domestic violence leave, and a casual conversion clause.
Negotiations are currently ongoing at Taylor’s AEP, and Navitas English NSW and later this year will commence at Access Language Centre, EF, Embassy English, Insearch, Sydney College of English, Universal English College, and UoW College.
Enterprise agreements generally provide for superior salaries and conditions to the Modern Award. The Fair Work Act includes provisions which can enable employees to push for an enterprise agreement. To see how this might work at your college, contact your Union, the IEU.
