In the last two weeks, the IEU has proudly hosted both our Early Childhood and Support Staff conferences. Feedback from attendees of both conferences has been tremendous, coming away with renewed feelings of professional and personal invigoration.
The Early Childhood conference was well attended, with over 90 attendees, who came along to learn about ‘the changing nature of the early childhood profession’ at the all day conference, themed ‘More Than Meets the Eye’. Attendance at the conference counted towards NESA accreditation hours, and the entire event was streamed live online courtesy of the IEU Professional Development team. There was plenty of room for laughter throughout the day, amongst the more serious conversations about the state of the profession, including discussions of mental health and healthy headspace as well as an industrial perspective of the IEU’s Equal Remuneration and Work Value cases currently being decided at the Fair Work Commission.
It was a full room, also, at the Support Staff conference, this year themed as ‘My Values My Work’. Attendees heard from passionate and engaging speakers as they spoke to how their personal values have informed their work, and how identifying your core values can help transform your own work and trajectory. Attendees explored how traditional ideas of leadership can limit our views of who can be leaders and when (especially for women), and worked through how our values connect to who we are, our story, our work and the practices of leadership that start with self leadership. Members also enjoyed a special treat, as IEU President Christine Wilkinson celebrated her 70th birthday on the day of the conference, and graciously shared her birthday cake with everyone attending.
The IEU is proud to offer these conferences and other sector specific professional development to our members. We thank and congratulate everyone involved in the planning, preparation, and delivery of these, as well as sincerely thank our members and conference participants who travel to and support the work we are doing together.
