NSW/ACT IEU members back Queensland colleagues

Our colleagues in Catholic schools in Queensland have, in response to their current round of industrial action, been threatened by their employer with indefinite lockouts from their workplaces. See here for more information.

This is the first time in Australia’s Catholic schooling history that a system-wide school lockout threat has been made. A lockout would not only be a completely unwarranted intimidation of workers campaigning for a fair Agreement, it would plunge Queensland Catholic education into chaos for staff, students and families – and it sets a shocking precedent for our own future Agreement negotiations.

QIEU members should be in no doubt that they enjoy the unequivocal support of NSW/ACT members.

“Your struggle is our struggle” indicated NSW/ACT Secretary Mark Northam.

To determine that a potential lockout is a reasonable way forward in 2019 is to underestimate the resolve of IEU members.

The NSW/ACT Branch extends its support to our fellow QIEU members, calls upon Catholic employers to negotiate in good faith and cease issuing edicts not aligned to their core values.

You can show your own support for Queensland IEU members by signing this petition and sharing it with your colleagues, friends, and family.
