COVID-19: Impacts on NSW Early Childhood Learning
26th March 2020
At the outset, please accept my heartfelt thanks for the work you are doing in early childhood education during the uncertain times created by COVID-19 (the corona virus). Rarely does early childhood education receive the recognition it deserves, and times of uncertainty are no different.
This morning I wrote to The Hon. Sarah Mitchell MLC with further concerns about the impacts of COVID-19 on the NSW Early Childhood Learning sector. You can find a copy of my letter here.
Over the coming weeks and days you will hear more from me as the Shadow Minister for Early Childhood Learning about what the NSW Government should be doing to support and ensure the ongoing viability of places and jobs in the sector. Be assured I am advocating on your behalf to Government to provide you with support and clarity, for the benefit of centres, educators and families.
Early childhood learning services will be pivotal in the recovery of our State after the immediate health emergency has passed. The Government needs to do all that it can to ensure that early childhood learning services remain viable so that they are still around when we will need them.
I am grateful to those of you who are keeping me updated about issues on the ground as you are experiencing them. Please do not hesitate to be in touch with me.
