Union WIN: Dioceses agree to payment of 2.5% salary increase and back payment
The IEU has received confirmation from the Catholic Commission for Employment Relations (CCER) of all 11 dioceses’ willingness to pay the 2.5% salary increase for principals, teachers and support staff in NSW and ACT Catholic systemic schools, due since 1 January 2020.
This across the board pay increase, overdue since the expiration of the previous enterprise agreement at the end of last year, has been a key claim of the union’s current enterprise agreement negotiations.
Members in Catholic systemic schools can expect to receive this union negotiated pay increase later this month or in August, and to see the additional back payment of the overdue amount - backdated to the first full pay period on or after 1 January 2020.
This is earlier than the date previously indicated, which was following a vote in favour of the new enterprise agreement.
The union was informed of this in a letter from CCER on Wednesday 8 June. The letter confirmed rumours that all dioceses would follow the decision of the Catholic Schools Office of the Diocese of Broken Bay to make early payment of the increase.
The union has sought clarification of the position of the Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn in respect of the 3% pay rise due to ACT teachers from the first pay period of July.
CCER has clarified that the payment of these salary increases “in no way represents a departure from the collective positions put and agreed by [the IEU] with respect to the enterprise agreement.”
These negotiations are ongoing, and we anticipate that the agreement will be put to members for a vote towards the end of Term 3.
