Early childhood teachers are frontline workers – include them on the priority list

Early childhood teachers are working in high-risk environments. Educating and attending to
young children’s needs requires close contact.

Every day early childhood teachers are going to work in centres and preschools where they must
interact with large groups of children and adults, allowing parents who may be frontline workers to
continue working.

They are providing a vital service to the community during this lockdown and deserve protection.
The union supports a recent message from NSW Department of Education Secretary Georgina
Harrisson to early childhood teachers, in which she urges the Federal Government to include them in
the priority vaccination group.

The IEU reiterates that message and urges the Federal Government to include all teachers, school
and early childhood, in the priority vaccination list.
