Renewals of WWCC during lockdown
The union has received some enquiries from members concerned about the renewal of their Working With Children Check (WWCC) during lockdown.
The Office of the Children's Guardian (OCG) WWCC Customer Service department has advised the union this morning that there is no blanket extension for WWCC renewals at this time, because Service NSW centres are still open. During the Sydney lockdown in 2020 they were closed. Therefore, the mandatory step for visiting a Service NSW centre for identification verification still applies.
In better news, vulnerable members can email firstname.lastname@example.org to apply for an extension, explaining why they are unable to complete the renewal. The union understands that teachers will then receive a form to complete.
NESA has also advised today that, while NESA will follow up with the OCG regarding teachers granted an extension of their renewal date, members should also notify NESA directly once their extension has been approved. Members can send the extension approval notice they receive from the OCG to NESA via email@example.com
