Supporting the independent education community

URGENT meeting of IEU Reps in schools represented by the AIS

Urgent online meeting at 4pm today, 12 August 2021

Is your school represented by the Association of Independent Schools (AIS)? In the media today AIS CEO Dr Geoff Newcombe called for principals of independent schools to determine their own return-to-school arrangements rather than follow Department of Education guidelines.

So the the union is calling a special online meeting at 4pm TODAY of IEU Reps in schools that are represented by the AIS to discuss the latest COVID developments. We are calling for Reps to endorse this position:

– All schools should follow a common approach to the attendance of students and staff that does not vary depending on the school sector.

– The safety of students and staff should be of utmost priority and in the face of the highly contagious Delta variant, key decisions about the health and safety of students and staff should not be left to individual principals. Other school sectors and other sectors of the economy are operating under strict guidelines and there is no reason independent schools should be exempt.
