Future Perfect: State of play
There’s no doubt that the pandemic has been a hammer blow to the post-secondary sector.
Those providers with a focus on international students have particularly suffered. But with the emergency phase of the crisis now receding and normal life starting to return, we are seeing a slow recovery in the industry.
English Australia periodic market analysis reports indicate that things are slowly getting better, with ELICOS enrolments up nearly 20 per cent on 2021, and student visa applications up manifold over 2021, and even comparable to the pre-pandemic 2019 figures.
A big blockage is the delay in processing visas, so it was pleasing to see the Federal Government recently announce extra resourcing for the Immigration Department to clear the backlog. In short, there’s a long way to go, but things are finally moving in the right direction.
