Newsmonth December 2022

Welcome to your final issue of Newsmonth for 2022.

What a hectic year it’s been, with both early childhood teachers and Catholic systemic teachers and support staff fighting for a better deal.

Members shared stories of dedication despite low pay at the IEU’s Early Childhood Education Reality Roundtable, featuring Federal Early Childhood Education Minister Dr Anne Aly, who listened intently and in turn shared a way forward.

In mid-November, Catholic systemic school teachers and support staff gave employers a short, sharp reminder to come to the negotiating table through a one-hour stopwork.

Following creative advocacy by union members, the Federal Government’s Secure Jobs, Better Pay Bill passed. At last, members in independent schools will have the same democratic industrial rights as their Catholic systemic school colleagues.

A great step for justice, the Uluru Statement from the Heart won the 2022 Sydney Peace Prize for its offer of peace from First Nations people to all Australians.

Read these stories and more in this issue of Newsmonth. We encourage you to share this email with your colleagues and invite them to join the IEU.
