Preschool days of attendance
Members have advised the Union that their Education Quality Manager (EQM) stated preschool directors can be “called in” to their preschool to work during non-term time. This advice does not comply with the KU Children’s Services – Teachers Enterprise Agreement 2024-2026 clause 32.1.1, which states: Full-time employees will not be required to attend work for more than 204 days per year, with 202 days being teaching days and a further 2 child-free days, 1 at commencement and 1 at conclusion of each calendar year.
Casual teachers
The IEU is aware that KU has made significant changes to the employment of casual teachers, including allocation of up to ten centres where they have been recently employed. Members advised that these changes have led to a significant decrease in the work available to casual teachers and resulted in some casual teachers being excluded from the centres closest to where they live.
The Union wrote to KU stating affected employees should have been consulted in accordance with Clause 8 of the KU Children’s Services – Teachers Enterprise Agreement 2024-2026. KU responded that they had emailed all casuals with more than ten centres identified, a request to identify their preferred ten services and to direct questions or concerns to kukcas@ku.com.au If any members were not advised of the proposal before it was introduced, the IEU will follow this up directly with KU on your behalf if you would like us to do so.
