The Independent Education Union of Australia NSW/ACT Branch (IEU) represents the industrial and professional interests of teachers, support staff and operational staff in non-government schools, teachers in early childcare services and English language colleges throughout NSW and the ACT. The union employs nearly 80 staff.

About you

The IEU is looking for a qualified HR professional to support and guide human resources practices and processes across the union. As the HR Coordinator you will work closely with the leadership team and other Coordinators to provide HR advice and assistance. 

The role will be key in policy development, ensuring WHS compliance, training and recruiting and developing staff. A commitment to social justice and union values is essential.

Desirable qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or similar qualification or comparable skills developed through experience 
  • HR experience, preferably in another union or not for profit organisation
  • Knowledge of HR (including WHS) principles and practices

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the IEU in its implementation of the IEU’s Strategic Plan
  • Develop and maintain employment-related policies and procedures and ensure they are consistent. 
  • Develop and review job descriptions for all staff, in conjunction with the leadership team.
  • Oversee a professional development program that meets the needs of employees and the union 
  • Support the leadership team and WHS Committee in ensuring the union complies with relevant legislation in relation to WHS, anti-discrimination, etc.
  • Support team leaders and team Coordinators in implementing a performance review and development process, including performance improvement plans and development needs analysis, in consultation with the leadership team.  
  • Support the management of grievance and misconduct claims in accordance with IEU policies and procedures.  
  • Manage the administration of any workers’ compensation claims and return to work coordination for any staff returning after extended leave. 
  • Contribute to organisational initiatives and projects that support staff well-being and engagement.
  • Support continued development of organisational culture and staff engagement by promoting an inclusive, supportive, and collaborative workplace culture that values diversity and encourages teamwork and assists each staff member to achieve their full potential.

Pay and conditions

  • Salary range: up to $146,270 depending on skills and experience
  • Hours of work: 35 hours
  • Superannuation: plus 15%
  • Annual leave loading on 4 weeks annual leave 
  • Approximately 5 additional days leave at Christmas (pro rata based on FTE and start date)
  • 2 weeks per annum long service leave
