Bargaining for enterprise agreements in Catholic Independent Model B and Model C schools is fast approaching, and the IEU is preparing with our members.
Current agreements for both teachers and support staff are due to expire at the end of 2026. For members, the important work starts now.
What are the issues?
During Term 3, IEU organisers will visit Model B and Model C schools to meet with members, discuss workplace issues and begin shaping the priorities for bargaining.
These visits are an opportunity for members to raise the matters they would like addressed in the next agreements, such as pay rises, workload, classifications, leave entitlements, consultation, job security or other conditions.
The IEU’s bargaining position will be built on the experience of members in schools. This means we need strong chapters with active members discussing clear workplace priorities with organisers.
What members can do
Bargaining is not just a process between your union and employers. It is a collective effort by members to improve pay and conditions across the sector.
Membership growth in your school is the strongest negotiating tool we have. The more members, the stronger our voice at the bargaining table.
Speak with colleagues who have not yet joined the IEU and invite them to join. Invite them to attend a union meeting with you. Encourage them to be part of discussions about what needs to improve in your school.
IEU organiser visits to your school in Term 3 are a key opportunity to build collective strength before formal negotiations commence.
Check in with your rep, look out for details of school meetings and speak with your organiser about strengthening your chapter.
The message is simple: the stronger our membership, the stronger our claim.
Next steps
After the IEU formulates a claim based on this consultation with members, we will present this to Model B and Model C employers. Then bargaining begins officially.
We will keep members updated throughout this process.
