The IEU is the union that represents the industrial and professional interests of teachers, support and operational staff in non-government schools, teachers in early childcare services and English language colleges throughout NSW and the ACT.
The Role
The Independent Education Union, NSW/ACT Branch is seeking to appoint an Industrial Assistant to assist the industrial team in all aspects of their work, this includes calculating complex member backpay calculations and assisting in drafting documents.
The successful applicant will be required to:
- Provide assistance to the industrial team
- Assist industrial officers and organisers by undertaking complex pay calculations for members
- Interpret relevant awards and agreements in relation to member entitlements
- Correspond with Employers on matters relating to salaries and entitlements
- Draft documents to be filed in tribunals and courts under supervision
- Assist in drafting enterprise agreements and other industrial instruments
- Provide limited advice to non-members
- Participate in team meetings
- Undertake other duties as allocated by the Industrial Coordinator or other members of the industrial team
Selection criteria
- Understanding of the principles underpinning the Union’s work
- Experience in the analysis of payroll and classification structures.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel, and SharePoint
- Relevant tertiary qualifications an advantage but not essential
- Familiarity with filing of documents in the Fair Work Commission
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive information
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work under pressure and exercise initiative
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
- Flexible and able to adjust to changing environments, tasks, and priorities.
Conditions of employment
Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience, on a range starting from approximately $100,000. Other conditions include:
- 14.5% superannuation
- Annual leave loading on 4 weeks annual leave
- Approximately 5 additional days leave at Christmas (pro rata based on FTE and start date)
- Generous long service leave and personal/carer’s leave
- 35-hour week, ability to work additional time to accrue RDO’s
