Welcome to your final issue of Newsmonth for the year. This edition is digital only and you can access the publication through the links below.
In early December, teachers in independent schools were still waiting for an agreement that offered workload transparency, was free of drafting errors and detailed how members on nine different agreements would translocate to one new pay structure. Our members deserve a better deal and we are continuing to negotiate for it.
Members in Catholic systemic schools will have received pay rises in recent weeks, with salaries in Catholic Schools Broken Bay setting a new benchmark. And federal Employment and Workplace Relations Minister Murray Watt stood with union members in the long day care sector to celebrate their historic 15% pay rise.
Members are of course at the heart of all the union does. We profile 10 of our dedicated chapter reps, celebrate membership milestones, and hear from many of our sub branches.
We invite our invaluable reps to join us for training next year, with sessions planned in Sydney, Canberra and regional NSW, and we’re offering special PD for support staff on how to raise your voice – not in volume but in impact.
As this edition coincides with the annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, we attend the Vigil for Violence against Women as well as consider the union-led gender equity wins for women and the vital role of women within unions.
Don’t forget to download our ever-popular 2025 calendar of First Nations culturally and historically important dates.
