Principals are recognised within the IEU as a distinct cohort of members. Matters relating to principals are managed with appropriate confidentiality and care to ensure potential conflicts of interest are avoided. This allows principals to seek advice, support and advocacy in a way that respects the responsibilities and sensitivities of their leadership role.
The IEU recognises that principals hold unique leadership responsibilities, balancing the needs of students, staff, families and employers while navigating increasingly complex professional, administrative and community expectations.
The Principals’ Organiser works closely with principal members to support their engagement with the union and ensure their perspectives are represented in advocacy, discussions and policy matters affecting their employment.
This support includes:
- Advocacy and representation on matters affecting principals’ roles, responsibilities, employment and working conditions
- Advice and support regarding employment arrangements, contracts, workplace matters and leadership responsibilities
- Representation and advocacy in discussions with employers, dioceses and peak bodies on issues impacting school leadership
- Opportunities for principals to contribute their perspectives to union advocacy, bargaining processes and sector discussions affecting school leadership and working conditions across the sector
Through this work, the IEU advocates for fair and reasonable conditions for principals while supporting them in navigating the complexities of their roles.
