Future Perfect: Overseas opportunities

If you’d like to try teaching overseas, now is the time to start looking. Given the general shortage of good teachers worldwide, you should have no trouble finding a job somewhere.

Centres across the UK, the US, Canada and Europe run summer courses for English language students, and many of these also offer accommodation.

However, not all centres are created equal. Some provide great pay and conditions, while some are basic – and it can often be hard to tell which is which until you turn up for work.

Thankfully, EL Gazette has done some homework on the British options and makes some recommendations. The pay can vary hugely, with St Edmund’s School (rated top by the Gazette) offering over £700 a week, while others offer barely half that.
