A year of action and positive outcomes for IEU members

2025 has been a year of steady progress in securing gains for members across both political and industrial arenas. We have continued to strive to deliver the best possible outcomes for our members through dedicated union efforts. Read about it in our 2025 Annual Report or visit our image gallery below.

Some highlights from the 2025 Annual Report:

  • A record $4.4 million was recovered for members in 2025 (nearly double the figure recovered in 2024).
  • Nearly 200 IEU reps undertook reps training in 2025.
  • Thanks to reps and members in independent schools, the AIS campaign was historic! It resulted in pay increases of up to $20,000 for some teachers, while many received $12,000, and support staff also saw significant rises.
  • IEU members at NextSense School for children with hearing or vision loss achieved a strong win, gaining pay rises and better conditions in a new agreement, with union membership doubling at the school during the campaign. Read more
  • More than 1500 preschool teacher members, supporters, parents and the community rallied for pay rises in Sydney, with strong turnouts also in Lismore and Coffs Harbour. Read more
  • After two years of tough negotiations, we’ve secured an agreement with 38 Christian schools in NSW.
  • The IEU, along with the AEU and UWU, achieved the first-ever supported bargaining agreement. Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) workers in Long Day Care (LDC) centres and Outside of School Hours Care (OSHC) won a 15% fully funded pay increase! Read more
  • About 20,000 members in Catholic systemic schools were set to vote on new EAs as the Annual Report went to press. While pay rises were settled late last year, negotiations continued for months on the union’s claim for improved conditions. Read more  
  • In addition to salary increases, the IEU secured several significant improvements to working conditions for teachers and support staff in ACT Catholic Congregational Schools.
  • We opened our new Wollongong office in April 2025.
  • The IEU Women and Equity Committee developed new resources on the positive duty under the Sex Discrimination Act. Access resources here
